Medical disclaimer
The content on Coeliac Everyday is general information only. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis or treatment from your GP, specialist, registered dietitian or another qualified healthcare professional. Never ignore professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you have read here.
If you think you may have coeliac disease, do not start a gluten-free diet before you have been tested. NICE guidance says tests are only accurate if you are eating gluten (NICE NG20). In an emergency, call 999.
Who writes our content
Coeliac Everyday is an independent, family-run publication founded by Djuri van der Schaar, a parent whose son has coeliac disease, with over a decade of experience in food retail (read our story). We are not healthcare professionals, and we don't present ourselves as medical experts. We write as careful researchers, summarising what authoritative sources say and linking to them so you can check.
Our sources
For health, diagnosis and allergen topics, we use these sources, in this order of preference:
- UK official and clinical guidance: the NHS, NICE, the Food Standards Agency (FSA), GOV.UK and legislation.gov.uk
- Coeliac UK, the national charity for people with coeliac disease
- Peer-reviewed research published in reputable journals
Every health or allergen claim is linked inline to its source, and our guides list their sources at the end. Recipes link inline to any official guidance they rely on, such as food safety advice. We don't use anonymous forums, unverified social media posts or marketing material as evidence for health claims.
What we will never do
- Invent reviews, ratings, product testing, quotes, case studies, statistics or credentials.
- Claim a product is gluten-free or safe unless that's supported by its label or the manufacturer's current information, and we will always tell you to check the label yourself.
- Let advertisers, affiliate partners or brands decide what we say.
Product and supermarket information
Product ranges, recipes and labels change frequently. Where we name a specific product, we link to the retailer's or manufacturer's page and say the date we checked it. Always read the label on the pack you buy. That's the information that applies to you.
Recipes
Our recipes are original and built on naturally gluten-free ingredients. Ingredients that can contain gluten in some brands (for example stock cubes or spice blends) are marked “check label”. Cooking times are a guide, because ovens and hobs vary. Always make sure food is cooked thoroughly, following Food Standards Agency guidance.
Review dates and updates
Health and allergen articles show a “last reviewed” date: the date we last checked the content against its sources. We aim to review them at least once a year, and sooner when guidance changes. Significant changes are reflected in the “updated” date.
Use of tools
Articles are researched, drafted and edited with the help of AI tools. Every factual, health and allergen claim is checked against the authoritative source linked beside it before publication, and our founder, Djuri van der Schaar, is responsible for everything we publish. If you spot an error, please tell us and we'll correct it promptly.
Corrections
If you spot an error, please email contact@coeliaceveryday.co.uk with the page and, ideally, a source. We'll review it promptly and correct significant errors, noting the change on the page.
External links
We link to external websites for sources and further information. We aren't responsible for their content, and a link isn't an endorsement unless we say so.
